ABOUT

Tram Alicante is a modern light rail system that connects the city of Alicante with nearby towns and villages along the Costa Blanca coast. The system is operated by FGV (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana), which is the public transport company for the Valencian Community in eastern Spain.

The history of Tram Alicante dates back to the early 20th century when a horse-drawn tram system was first introduced in Alicante. This system was later replaced by an electric tram network in the 1920s, which operated until the 1960s when it was replaced by buses.

In the early 2000s, plans were made to reintroduce a modern light rail system in Alicante, which led to the construction of the current Tram Alicante network. The first section of the system opened in 2003, and it has since expanded to cover a network of over 50 kilometers, with lines connecting Alicante with towns and villages such as El Campello, Benidorm, and Altea.

Tram Alicante is a popular and convenient way to get around the Costa Blanca region, with frequent services, affordable fares, and modern, comfortable trains. The system is also environmentally friendly, using electricity from renewable sources and reducing congestion on the roads.
